About Us
Our Story
Inclusivity, celebrating diversity, giving back to the communities it serves while incorporating sustainable practices are at the heart of Uncommon Coffee Roasters' core values.
Originally founded in 1994 by queer owners, Guy and Stephen, our cafe became the first safe space in the Saugatuck area. Guy and Steven began partnering with coffee farmers around the world–including many women farmers--to bring ethically sourced and environmentally responsible coffee to Saugatuck and the midwest.

Partnership Farmers
Two of Uncommon's longtime partner farmers, Bruno Nobre and Mauricio DaSilva, took over the business in 2021. Both come from a long line of multigenerational coffee farmers in Brazil. They grew up on coffee farms & regularly travel to their family farms in Minas Gerais, Brazil, farming with their families, supporting the day to day operations and continuuing to spread love and coffee one cup at a time.
Our History
Bruno and Mauricio work closely with coffee producers to better understand their products. Sourcing green coffee globally & traveling to the origin whenever possible continue to be a top priority for Uncommon Coffee Roasters.
Uncommon is proud to be a minority-owned company. We are proud to employ members and allies of the queer community.

Mission
UCR takes pride in offering a variety of delicious and unique coffees and coffee products both locally and nationally while also creating and maintaining sustainable partnerships with customers, coffee producers and everyone in between.
