Uncommon Coffee Roasters (UCR) enjoys working directly with farmers whenever possible. In November of 2015, co-owner UCR, Guy Darienzo, traveled to Ethiopia in search of new and sustainable partnerships.
In Hambela, we had the best tasting coffee we have had in a long time. The coffee was awarded a score of 92 by the Specialty Coffee Association of America (SCAA). The farm itself was also the most beautiful we have visited in recent years. The Hambela Coffee Estate is operated by METAD Agricultural Development PLC, a family owned business. METAD strives to strengthen the local community with employment opportunities, educational opportunities, and medical support. METAD provides technical assistance and shares modern farming equipment with other local farmers. METAD also has the first SCAA certified quality control lab in Africa.
